what makes art 'art', is the move in its makers heart--the move that suggests the art/gesture should be gathered out of its context so it can stand independently. This makes it possible to look at the gesture carefully, consider it in isolation, in the context it occurred in, and other related and unrelated contexts.

this shouldn't be true ideally. the goal of the artist is that there should be no art. art would collapse back to life. many artist do this now--Mel Chin's Tranforma Project, or Christo and Jeanne-Claude's Over the River.

and sometimes to almost believe you don't even know where it came from, that it stands regardless of you, or anyone else for that matter--that is has that much "is-ness".....?

so true barbara. i hadn't visited my own blog in ages. when i look at what is written here, i was surprised at its authorship (i?). i had forgotten.
